p r o g r a m : performance space, gallery space + music school
l o c a t i o n : Roma, Italia
Rome is a city the lives and breathes via the built environment. There is a constant dialog between what is and what was; a dialog that is in perpetual flux.
In recent history, that being the 1960's, Rome as well as all of Italy has begun to realize the benefit of the institution with its capital gain.
The museum has taken over as the main source of revenue. How can one begin to convey the institution being absorbed into oneself? I pondered this question and began to operate on the guise that people need to view their fellow man by new means.

Architecture begins with the body. How the body engages with a space allows one to place their being within the world. The chair is the most basic form of architecture. It engages the body at a simple level and acts as a tool that has the capacity to bring comfort into one's life.
Four planes support the body. A small, one centimeter sliver allows for the spine to rest with no turbulence from a solid form.
The structure begins to disappear and reappear at moments creating a conversation between solid structure and planar surface.

m a t e r i a l : red oak + cast resin
j o i n e r y : resin
Ian is a lamp that communicates linear aperture with tectonic moves. The economy of the line has been implemented, the solid and void move with one another as the oblique offers a constant play between the two.
A new method of joinery was invented in ian. A new material was made, a hybrid of oak+resin that begins to take advantage of the qualities of each material respectively.
